Look what I found!
I love thrifting... went to St. Vinnie's and found this little treasure! It's a handmade cage (bird or small animal?). It is just adorable! The front door opens perfectly and it has that cute little heart carrying handle. 50 cents! I'm going to use it as a prop in my pics of my sculpture girls and birds. Danita was my inspiration for this as she has such awesome props! My favorite one is the typewriter.

MY NEIGHBORHOOD
Once in a while things just go RIGHT, yk? This is how I felt this weekend when I "accidently" started this painting using watercolors instead of my "normal" acrylics. I just grabbed a watercolor pencil without thinking and started shading, then filling in with regular watercolor paints... it was a blast! Normally I don't use a lot of watercolor in my pieces, but I just couldn't stop. I love this style as I feel like my strong points are color and detail. I named it "My Neighborhood" as this seems like a place I'd like to live! :)
Wishing everyone a GREAT week!

Framing
I'm experimenting with getting some of my work framed. I got this frame from Michael's, then painted and distressed it a tad. I like it!
As many of you know, dh lost his job a few weeks ago, so I'm taking advantage and having him make me some cool frames. He's a perfectionist, so they always turn out so beautifully! :)

pizza makes life better
When I need to feel better and want to use food to do so (GRRR!), I choose pizza. I love fresh mozzerella, sweet red onions, and fresh basil. I don't need any meat, but dh would balk without it, so I put pepperoni on it most of the time. I'm always looking for that *perfect* homemade sauce and crust.
We made this one Saturday night and the crust was tasty, but a bit too crunchy. I think my yeast is giving out. It didn't rise enough. But, it was delicious, really. I tried a new sauce recipe and it had great flavor, but too "thick and tomato-y" for me... I want it more OILY. My favorite pizza place is Sammy's, a local pizzaria right here in Green Bay. If you ever make it to a Packer game, you GOTTA try it! Get the Italian Special (used to be called Sammy's Special). Anyway, I wish I knew how they make their sauce so oily without making it TASTE oily. It's just so juicy and GOOD!

new paintings on etsy
Hey everyone! I finished some cute little paintings and put them up in my etsy shop. I'm not sure what is going on here, but I am having a hard time getting great pics of my paintings right now! Maybe it's the winter sun.

Dirty Studio
My studio is in our basement. I have a nice big area down here, but always *wish* there'd be room for me upstairs in a big room full of natural light! Ahhhh, but I manage and I'm blessed all the same.
Last night I realized my work area was embarrassingly filthy! Really. I put cleaning off so many times. I'd rather paint. But there's a point.
Here's a pic of some of the tools I use in my mixed media:
Below are my three favorite tools that I use very often. The one on the left is a punch. I take a hammer and pop it on my wood here and there to create little random holes and dings. I've had this tool for so many years! Then there's the exacto knife. I use that to dig out areas, rough areas up, and also to remove things I don't like. Then there's the clay tool. That's another *ding* tool.
I sharpened my watercolor pencils and loved the big pile it made. These might be cool to save to add in a mixed media piece in the future! I love finding stuff like this to my art. Once I picked up a bike tassel on the sidewalk cuz I loved the sparkle of it.
Have a great Sunday!
